Joe Biden declared his victory in the 2020 U.S. presidential election on Saturday, calling on the American people to reconcile with other and vowing an orderly transition of power after Donald Trump refused to concede defeat.

Both the Associated Press and major television networks announced that Biden has won the 2020 presidential election Saturday. Record voting rate and the pandemic have led to an unprecedented number of mail-in ballots this year, slowing the count. But Trump dismissed the result, citing widespread fraud, claiming victory directly, and vowing to fight it in court.

Biden passed the 270 electoral vote threshold needed to be elected president after Pennsylvania declared him the winner. He is expected to end up with 306 votes, up from the 304 electoral votes on which Trump won in 2016. The votes continue to be counted, with Biden and Harris already winning nearly 75 million votes, the most in U.S. history and roughly 4 million more votes ahead of Trump.

Biden will formally take over the presidency on Inauguration Day, January 20.
